State Govt ensures students get textbook on time

When every new academic year kicks off, the biggest challenge for teachers is not simply getting the students to read or take proper notes — it is getting them the textbooks right on time for their study. Some students opt to use second-hand textbooks when books are not readily available, but not many are fortunate enough to have seniors around them willing to give away course materials.

Luckily for these students – and for teachers too, the first volume of textbooks will arrive by April 15. Over three crore textbooks for the 2020-21 academic year have been printed and are ready to ship. Like the previous academic years in school, the government made constant efforts to ensure the students receive their textbooks on time for study.

Distributed by the Kerala Books and Publication Society (KBPS), the textbooks are being published in three volumes, the first of which is now ready for distribution.  As many as 3.3 lakh textbooks have now been published in Arabi, Urdu, Tamil, and Kannada which would also be given away to schools soon.

As per the decision, the textbooks of class 1 to VII would be distributed on the last day of the final examination while textbooks of Class X would be given away when the Class IX results are out. Work is progressing to distribute the textbooks of Class VIII and IX in April or May, just in time for the new academic year. The timely delivery of the books will come as a boon for the students who once used to wait long to get them.

Ever since KBPS took over the printing and publishing of school textbooks, complaints of students about the delay in receiving books have come down significantly. To surmount any unwanted hiccups in distribution, the government has split the state into three zones and appointed officials to take care of the textbook delivery properly, easing the process for the education department.

The state education sector has grown in leaps and bounds after KBPS took up the publishing and distributions duties, handling a huge volume of books. This indicates the significance of strengthening public sector companies. Besides, the state bagged 82 points from the Niti Aayog’s Quality Index Report for the achievements made in the education sector.
